If I use two different sheets of mat, like scraps I had left over, to put on my transom will I loose strength? I was thinking the mat in the resin kind of works just like reinforcing wire in concrete allowing it to flex without cracking?

Re: Using Mat In Sections On Transom

how big are they? will they cover the entire area and some on the sides too?

if there just small peices thrown on the surface of the transom they wont do much.....the matt needs to make at least a six inch contact with the hull all the way around.......

hope that helps

Re: Using Mat In Sections On Transom

if its two larger peices that will touch the sides of the boat ...and you overlap them on the trans...you should be ok

and as far as re.bar in concrete....uh ......not exactally....the resin by it self is very weak....very very weak...brittle in fact

it is the combinatition of the two that make it strong......it is as strong as steel in some directions.....

in the hull ext thread...capt jason and i discussed a few points about glassing...you might want to read my post..start about half way down my long long written reply on the last page...it talkes about fiberglass and how it works.

cheers
