Heard you can use a ampclamp set to millivolts and check the rpm for a outboard? Is this correct?

Does it matter which spark plug to hook around?

Thanks,
Nick

Re: Using Amp Clam for tach (rpm) reading?

From what I have found out so far is you need to have a multi meter that has a rpm reading capability with a clamp on RPM attachment. Clamp it on any spark plug wire, they all fire the same amount of times, and set the meter to DC volts and hit the rpm button to change the senitivity if interference gives you trouble at least that is what I read. Fluke makes different ones along with lots of others but I am not sure how compatible they are with the CDI ignitions, they are automotive meters. So instead of ordering one, hoping for the best and testing it out I ordered a ESI 321 that is suppose to work with marine motors and am waiting for it to show up.

Good to here you got you carbs clean and working again.
