ocean,

The problem with Bondo is that it doesn't flex.

I would use Marine Tex. It is available at:

www.westmarine.com

Bondo is fine as long as it is not near a joint and the repair area is the size of a quarter or less

Also if it is to be below the waterline, make sure it is painted with at least 3 coats of marine grade paint,i.e. Interlux

why not just use marine tex...you can slap it on where ever you want and once cures...your boating. No painting required. Its also more like a paste so easier to spread, fill in cracks, etc. unlike bondo :D

Re: useing bondo

I've been using Evercoat Formula 27, but it is essentially a marine grade bondo. I have used it primarily to fill in screw holes and gouges in my project boat. I also touched up some worn spots/gouges on a friend's boat and it seems to hold up ok. The Marine Tex is great stuff too. Good for lots of uses. I have used it as filler before too. Bondo is very bad below the waterline...
