Hello everyone, I was trying to find information on how i might be able to price a 1986 50 hp evinrude. I have no clue what it might be worth, I can tell you I had it running about 3 years ago and the previous owner kept the maintenance up. I have never had it in the water. It's weathered (faded paint and decals) but with min effort I am sure it will fire up. Any resources would be a big help....Thanks again!!!!!

Re: Used outboard prices

location and condition...

dont be so sure of something you really are not sure of....

sitting motors can be time consuming to bring back to life...after 3 years sitting...both carbs have to be rebuilt and they would have to be done before marketing the motor, because a buyer wants to hear a motor running...at least on muffs

if there was water in the lower unit the whole time...there now is rust....and those surfaces need to be smooth and rust free to work properly.

personally i look at motors sitting that long as parts motors that if i cross my fingers just right , might be
brought back to life ..but if not...then i can use the parts

Your most convenient resource would be craigslist. Look through the listings in your area for similar vintage and size motors in similar conditions. Baically a motor is worth what someone will pay for it, and that can vary widely depending on region and time of year.

I live in NJ abt 5 min from the Delaware river, and about 40 min from the shore. I am lost with this...do you think 250 - 300 is too much

no for that area , i think $500 is more resonable if it isnt all corroded ...it is a "potential" motor in my book... the lower unit is worth $300 if it is in good shape and has no water. details are everything..we cant see it or hear it...does it have power TNT??

your best bet is to find out if you can get it running... and hear it.... you could ask what ever you want and you might hit the jackpot with the first guy walking in..and he pays your price..it is dynamic for sure. I clean running power TNT 50 hp from that era can sell for $1000 easily!!

good luck

Re: Used outboard prices

If you can demonstrate it running, I don't think you'll have a problem selling it for $500.
