Used LU oil

should it smells like sewage? The NAPA brand gear case oil I just drained smells like sewage. No sign of water though. I've always used Quicksilver brand, except last year, and it doesn't smell bad.

Ayuh,.. Most all EP oils Stink,... Some worse than others...
I use Modil 1, it ain't Tooo bad....

Any of the gear oils really smell bad ..... yup like sewage sounds right....... nothing I would use as a cologne I have used it as a rust preventative and painted it on truck frames which greatly reduces salt damage. Oil undercoating is very popular here in VT.... but I limit the gear oils to trucks since it smells so bad.

Just a side note..... if you have an ATV and the oil smells like gear oil it is an indicator that you are burning the clutches.

Hey now.... I once, inadvertently dumped a quart or so on my head/hair trying to wrangle the catch pan out from under my truck. Thinking back,,, my girlfriend wasn't too impressed with my new found odor or that I combed it back like a greaser trying to lighten up the situation

what oil the differential oil or regular oil like you put in the car? 20wt and such

i use bar chain oil diluted with diesel then spray it on the underside.
bar chain oil has phosphoric acid in it to help keep the chain from rusting.

Yup Bar and Chain is the best....no argument there..... but we just use whatever is on hand
