Used Etec or rebuild my Looper.

I found the problem with my 96 Looper (broken ring).
Is it worth putting a rebuilt powerhead on it?
I found a used Etec at a dealer with 300 hours. They're asking 9k for it. I don't know much about the Etec, does anyone have any experience with them? Is 300 hours alot for this engine and what should I look at before I consider buying it?

what year is the etec? i could rebuild a lot of motors for $9,000.

It's a 2006 Etec 225. I've gotten a price of around 4k to do the rebuild my 200. So for 5k more. It's 10 years newer and 25 more HP..

it has had a lot of use in 2 years.

Decided to rebuild the ol' girl. Disassembled the power head last night.
Looks like the dowel that holds the ring in place walked out,pinched the ring in the port and broke the piston.

Hope to get the block out for maching this week. Anyone have any advice on making this thing better? Is there a better piston I should go with over stock?
Any other tips or tricks would be greatly appreciated.
