Hi there boat lovers
I’m getting the idea that my shift interrupt switch is causing my stiff gear change but my old interrupt switch has two switches and the new one only has the one. Will this work and what do I do with the spare wires from the unused switch?
Cheers 🍻 Dave

You have an MC1 drive with a reverse lockout switch? (Would help if you added engine and drive information)

Sorry Achris
Very Remiss of me🤔
I have a Sea Ray 220 with (I’ve been told) a Mercruiser 5 litre MPI. This is driving an Alpha Drive 1 Gen 1

In that case the second switch is an 'in gear' switch for the ECU. But in order to give you anything more we're going to need an engine serial number..

Hi Chris
Engine number is
M600033 I’m thinking that the extra switch can be added to the new shift interrupt switch.
Best regards Dave

Are you sure that's a Gen I? The engine serial number is for Gen II... And yes, the in gear switch should just transfer across.

Morning Chris
Thanks again for putting me right I have been thinking it was a Gen 1 but as you say it must be a Gen 2.
I’ve just reassembled the gearbox and set the cables using Google with 6” measurements and the like and I’ve got to put boat on the water to check it’s all working properly. I will order a new interrupt plate just in case. It will be good to have one in reserve.
I’m off to navigate the Caledonian Canal in Scotland so I don’t want any problems as it’s a 1000 mile round trip. Thanks again for your continued support
Best regards Dave

The fine was changed by the previous owner, it was a 5.7 v8 Mercruiser

I stand corrected. That is indeed a 1990 Alpha One (Gen I) drive, with a ratio of 1.5:1... Very unusual for an MPI engine to be drop in place of a carb engine across generations like this...

I suspect you have the old Gen I shift plate, and the switch has failed and being NLA you need to update to the new plate...Based on a 1990 engine previously, the replacement plate will be -864363A1. Which appears to have provision for the 'in gear' switch.

Thanks so much Chris for your help I’ve ordered the interrupt plate and have got forward neutral and reverse so it’s a water test now to check for leaks after replacing the bellows and gimbal bearing let’s hope all is well

I hate when that happens, usually when picking up the dock.. maybe bump the idle up a bit.

Sorry for the delay, boat lovers
After getting the boat to do as it was told I tried it on the water and it just needed a slight tweak. Then the Range Rover went into limp mode on the way home. It’s still waiting for a new part.
Maybe I’ll get on the Caledonian canal next year
Watch this space 😛
