Re: Updates on my 67 SC cuddy

On your motor with no tell-tale...the water will exit out through the prop and should be warm. Once the thermostat(s) open, it may spit some out throught the exhaust relief holes further up the leg. But that's really all it is, spitting.

DP, do NOT rev it up while only using muffs, please. Like I said in the other thread, you need a tank or drop her in the water. Using muffs does not offer the back pressure, does not let the thermostats open up correctly, and does not give a true stream due to the water hose pressure. Get a trash can, 55 gal drum, or something similar and put the lower unit in that. Muffs are fine for running at idle, thats it. Dale

ok thanks for the info, I wont do that, makes since, theres no way to tell if my waters pumping in a barrel though. like i said, i have warm water coming out behind the prop up a little ways just above where the lower and top part meet, not to much water coming out of the prop, im just trying to make sure its pumping enough water, thats all i need to do to put my boat i the water now, and im gettin pissed cuz the last weeks thats all its been is.. is it pumpin enough water.. ill take some pics later of the stream and what not... thanks

Took the SC StarChief out!

Took the SC StarChief out!

took the SC out yesterday, from 10 am till 9pm, did very well, took in a little water, but it is rivited so im pretty sure its normal. only took in about 3 gallons the whole time, did very well, ill post some pics shortly with it in the lake, not to sure if the Cuddy is for me, I think i need some more room, may start some modifications in the next few days to get more room, might make the cabin smaller or something, I reeally really like the boat, just need more room, for more people, possibly trade someday for a open bow or something. dont want to take out the cabin completly then its no longer a cuddy! lol

Re: Updates on my 67 SC cuddy

i am going to do the deck.... not till a few months

when you do, make sure to gluvit all the seams from the inside. it will work wonders! when i first got my boat and got it all stripped down i filled it with water to see if there were any leaks and there were a few... im sure i would have had a few gallons after a few hours on the lake. now i do not take on ANY water, except for swimmers getting back in the boat.

Re: Updates on my 67 SC cuddy

Haha, you sound like me. My Jupiter leaked like a sieve. I just ran the pump. One I decided to stick a garden hose in it and see if by some chance I could see where the water was coming out. I wasn't expecting to find anything major. Boy was I wrong! Within seconds of sticking the hose in there a STREAM of water started coming out of the bottom near the stern. Apparently I had a hole right in the center of the knew brace. I patched it with JB weld and that cured about 80% of my leakage. Some more JB slathered on all the rest of the suspect looking rivets prior to a vacation the next year cured the other 20%.

Re: Updates on my 67 SC cuddy

may possibly sale it... still in deep thought about it, just not sure if its what I want, taking it out the few times, it just doesnt have the room I am looking for, i got the motor running great, cleaned it up, supported the floor, it floats, added some light ect, did some minor painting, put down fresh carpet which i screwed up on accident, lol, what do you think its worth? its ready for the water, just needs some love, you can see the pics, floor would probably need to be replaced withen a few years, I put down some ply wood for support, and put carpet over that, added swivel seats, got rid of the boxes, ill take some recent pics tomorrow, if its not raining,... ive seen them in worse shape for about 2 grand, but that does seem a little high

Re: Updates on my 67 SC cuddy

here are some new pics, took it out, had a good time, just pretty much making sure it was gona float, didnt have any major problems, just some adjustments, and thought the starter whent out for a few, but I just lubed up that starter shaft / gear, it was getting stuck, then the next time did a night trip.... well getting finished up around midnight, callin it a early night was gettin verry cold, whent to get the truck... yea no brakes at all, so I had to get the truck and the boat towed home... pretty stressed out night, the boat did good though, heres a few pics, some of the quick fixes I have done, cheap carpet, guess thats all you can notice, I did take out a nest of wireing that was in there for what reason? yea no clue, was a nightmare tracking down all the wires that ended up going no where really.
