Re: Update alert.......Question

Taking your advice myself, in Local Settings I have History, Temp, and Temporary Internet Files. I hit Clear History, Delete Cookies, and Delete Files via Internet Options. History cleared, but Temporary Internet Files are still in that folder. Can I delete them safely and can I delete all the Temp files safely (all in Local Settings)?

Start run type in the box "services.msc" press enter (click ok)

no " " find and dissable windows messanger, there are other un-needed services but thats another thread.

I can't find the windows messanger. The only messanger I did find said "This service is not related to windows messanger".

Does it only come up when you are browsing the internet?

No...It will pop up on my desk top with the computer just idleing. As a matter of fact this morning when I was booting up (i've been shutting it down lately at night) before every thing had loaded, it popped up.

Is this a semi-new computer? A lot of new computers come pre-installed with a lot of trial software, once the trail period is up, you'll get popups, but most will have the name of the software in the popup. Go to the control panel>add remove programs> and look for this type of software as well as others that you did not install, like toolbars and remove them. If your not sure, research it before you remove it.

Go to:
C:\WINDOWS\Temp
C:\WINDOWS\Prefetch
C:\Documents and Settings\user name \Local Settings\Temp
And delete the contents

You can also go to start>run msconfig and look in there to disable programs that run in the background when windows start. You can saftly uncheck all if you like, but your antivirus is in there so it will not be running.

Also look in Start>all programs>start menu and right click items in there and delete them. IT does not delete the program, just stops it from loading and running in the background.

I did that already.

BTW.....I really appreciate all the help. :D

So you've gone ito msconfig, choosen deselect all and it still happens?

Another thing you can try is go into task manager when the popup is there and try stopping processes until you find the one it is, do a search for that and delete it.

Are you comforable with regedit? You can TOTALLY KILL YOUR SYSTEM by modifying the registry!!!!

But if you are, you can navigate to current user\software\microsoft\windows\currentversion\runonce and see what is in there.
