Anyone have any luck with the up and over method when laying up stringers? I have about 20' of stringer to cover with 2 layers of 1708, my pieces will be about 20" and 28" wide.. just wondering if it would be better to try the up one side and over the top and down the other or cut them into 10" and 14" and lay up each side then cap em?

It's a pain! The larger your piece, and the more complicated area you are covering, the more difficult it is to get it placed correctly. It isn't easy to reposition after setting onto tacky resin. I think its much easier to glass to about an inch from the top and cap with csm. Some have gone up and over with 1708 successfully and it looks nice.

With only a 5/8" thick stringer I would not try to go over the top unless you do some "pre-creasing" of the fabric. Do this by folding it where you think the crease will be on the top of the stringer and then "ironing" it with a flat object to put a crease in it. Even if you do this it's still difficult cuz the 1708 sqirms and wiggles a lot during wet out. That's why my drawing shows the capping method. You might try a 12" section to start and see how it goes.

So it looks like it might be better to lay up each side then cap it off with CSM?

That's what I'd do. But like I said you might try a 1 foot section and see how it goes with the full wrap method.
