Re: unused fuel

I routinely ran 2 cycle oil mixed into the gasoline for my carb'd 4.3LX Mercruiser. I started using Marvel Mystery Oil, thinking that some lubrication of the valves would be good for an engine that takes that kind of abuse. After I used up all the MMO, I started with the TCW-III. I was also concerned that the intake manifold would rust out, and thought the TCW-III would help slow that down. I used the MMO gas-oil ratio which was ~4 oz/ 10 ga fuel.

So how many of you experts think 02 sensors work properly and last longest using old premix fuel with or without stabilizers? If you screw up your 02 signal your computer will not be able to optimize the cars (boats) tune.

O2 sensors are a galvantic battery that measures oxygen. Burning a little premix is not nearly as hard on an O2 as a car with worn rings. No damage will be done to this guys 02 sensor from using up a little old premix.

I like this response.. Kinda says it all as far as fuel injectors ... Not only is he running 10% two stroke oil thru the injectors. The entire fuel system incluiding injectors sit all off season loaded up with that all that oil:D

Injectors are tough... oil won't kill them. Lots of guys on the performance boat forums fog there multiport engines by dumping out the fuel from the fuel filter and pouring it full of automatic tranny fluid. They re-install the filter and run the boat until it dies. The cylinders get lubed without removing the spark plugs.

Boat engines don't (yet) have the polution controls and sensors that modern cars and trucks have. It's a different situation. Mess up your sensors and you would have been better off dumping the gas/oil mix.

If you're pouring a gallon or so of 50:1 premix into 15 gallons of unmixed gas, your O2 sensor isn't going to suffer. We're talking about burning an extra gallon or two of pre-mix by slowly mixing it in the gas tank. You'd essentially be adding 4 or 5 ounces of oil into 15 gallons of gas, call it 400:1.
For the short time this mix would be in the engine, I'd be more than willing to risk my O2 sensor.
