Unkown Year, Make or Model... First Ever Boat Needs some TLC!

Hello all! I am new to the forums and also new to boat restoration/ re-building. My father, Brother in Law and myself all decided to take on the challenge of taking an old shady boat, giving it some TLC and bringing it back to life! Currently we are still very early on in the re-building but here is a little bit of information of what has taken place thus far....Our adventure started when we managed to snag a boat with trailer and working motor for $200! The year and make are unknown (hoping someone on here can tell us based on the provided pictures). It is approximately 16 feet in length and of fiberglass material. Motor is a 40 HP Johnson. All carpet, dash components, seats and accessories will be replaced (new or used).

We stripped every piece off the boat, right down to the shell. As you can see from the pictures, we have started to lightly sand the rough areas and patch (bondo and fiberglass) up some of the holes left by the fastened components or modifications the previous owners made. We have picked up some used parts (cleats, front and rear lights, rails, and small miscellaneous parts) and have them set aside. Our next big purchase will be the windshield. This is where I need some advice. The current one is round in shape and fits the curved profile of the boat. We found a guy who has a 3 piece (Left, right and walk through) windshield that will fit the boat perfectly, but the bottom of the windshield is flat. Knowing that the boat has a slight curved profile across the front, can we either a) bend the windshield or modify it in such a way that it will form to the shape of the boat or b) just mount it as is and let the weather stripping/seal make up for the gap or c) other (please advise). I hope to keep up with this thread as we progress. Thank you for your time and if you require any additional information, pase do not hesitate to ask!

Picture of windshield mentioned above....

Can someone confirm if pictures are in deed showing up? If not, I have them on photobucket and can use that if required.

No Pics, NBO, Try Using the Image icon in Advanced Editor, the underlined blue A above the message box. Image is the third icon to the left of the quote thingy.

EDIT - Never mind - You got 'em now. And Welcome Aboard!

Thank you kindly for the heads up! I think I got it sorted out now.... Perhaps that is why I wasn't getting any response to this thread:lol:

Well it was cracked when we bought it and it was further cracked when trying to remove. So instead of trying to hunt down a decent one at a decent price we found the one pictured for $80. Nothing is set in drive right now as we haven't drilled out holes so if a curved one comes our way then we may use that instead.

Ok, did not see the crack. Since you have the frame, it's not that hard to make a new plexiglass screen for it. Others here on the forum have had some good success doing it. You might want to consider giving that a try. I just don't think she would look right with that windshield on her. But it's your boat and you should do what you thinks best.

I appreciate the feedback and help. I did come across some threads and how tos regarding the windshield and that is something I will heavily consider.... I do have a pic with the walk through windshield on the boat (dry run fit) I'll post those very soon... I am doing this restoration with two others and I know we all have different opinions based on what direction we want to go with this boat. I believe we want something very unique yet still look good and not 'forced' if that makes any sense lol

Look thru the pix & info here

You can usually angle a 3pc flat windshield slightly to get it to fit more or less 'right' and look 'right' but, IMO, this vintage boat, NEEDS a vintage style windshield to look correct. Newer flat angular walk-thru style windshields don't go w/ the fluid lines & curves of the boat.

Hope you figure out which Shell Lake it is.

Good luck w/ your project. There is a good bit to do before you permanently mount a windshield anyway.....

Bondo brand filler isn't the best choice, but for sure avoid using it below the waterline.
