Re: unknown project boat

HI jim. Welcome to iboats. Cool old tinny you've got there. It looks like it's a "Mohawk" brand, but I'm not sure of the year, or model, but it looks to be late 50s-early 60s era. Donb't be surprised if it's hard to find info on it. There were hundreds of regional boat builders back then. Thankfully, there are only a few rules for aluminum boats: NEVER use pressure treated wood as it will cause electrolytic pitting. Instead, use non-PT lumber and seal it. 2-part epoxy is best, but Spar Urethane and/or Exterior Paint will work well also. You'll also want to use either aluminum rivets and/or stainless steel hardware throughout to avoid rust and corrosion issues. Be sure to apply a bit of 3M 5200 to any through-hull fittings as well. That's really about it. The rest is just a matter of time, money and imagination. Good luck. Keep us posted.

If Mohawk was under the Cadillac/Wagemaker umbrella, you might try contacting RBH, thru this link then click the Boat Building Tours link near the bottom.

Sweet looking lil old boat. Looks like it will clean up beautifully!

Would think it will handle a 30-40hp 2 cylinder nicely.

I can't help you out with anything Mohawk but I can say that is an awesome little tinny you have there. I love the stern cap, too bad someone bored a bunch of holes in it to put down riggers on it.

She should be a great restoration project I will enjoy following along.

Yeah they are fairly rare but go cheap for money. Just your basic aluminum runabout. Show photos of inside the transom of the bracing.
