I bought this 1955 12 ft aluminum boat and these two aluminum boxes came with it. The gentleman I bought the boat from had no idea what they are for. Does anyone know what they are? I am a rookie to boating and have no idea. I have attached a Youtube picture of them. Please help. http://www.youtube.com/channel/UCnF9AGE5wP9jpNOBi5m9hyQ[/IMG]

Ayuh,.... Welcome Aboard,.... My guess is they go under the seats, 'n get filled with foam, for flotation purposes,...

Re: Unknown boat pieces

Looked at the youtube vid...
What Bondo says seems about right...
Any chance the large box goes suspended between what looks like the bench supports in the centerline...almost looks like the rivet holes in the box match the spacing on those...?
The smaller one may have a similar positioning elsewhere...?
Maybe some more pics from various angles of both boxes and the interior of the hull might help...?
Might have to play around with positioning them in various places and see where they might match up...

Back in '55 those were probably flotation chambers, non foam filled.

Looks like one front seat and one center seat.

What is the make and model?

Re: Unknown boat pieces

Thanks for all of the feedback. I have tried to position them all over but the holes don't seem to match up anywhere. I also did that before I took the benches out so I will try again. The registration card say Fishmist as the make and I have never heard or seen that anywhere. I did have to get it appraised to register and the boat guy said Sears/Ward. Do you guys think tht these are necessary to have in the boat?

One thing for sure...You'll need to put the bench seats back in. They provide major lateral structural stability for the boat and without them the boat is totally unsafe.

I am painting the inside of the boat, that is why the benches are out. I am replacing them.
