unfamiliar noise from engine

This may be a stupid question but here it goes.

I have a 2007 boat with 5.0L MPI engine. I just pulled it out of winter storage and the battery was totally dead. I put it on a charger for a while and then, while it was still charging, turned the key to the right but not far enough to start, just enough to turn on the acc. Ok here is my question, there was a sound of clicking or resetting that came from the engine, almost like a pump was kicking on or something was filling. It lasts for about three seconds then stops. I have never heard this before, is there something wrong or was my hatch always closed and I could not hear before. PS the boat was prof. winterized and usually they put all plugs back in.

Thanks in advance

the newer motors(ECM) require a good battery source to operate properly. if the battery was disconnected ,then I`d opt for replacement not a recharge. If it was not, then get into the habit of removing the battery for winter storage or atlest disconnect it. batteries that go low on charge will freeze and crack. do you really want battery acid in the bilge?

I usually take it out and store it in my basement but last year was a busy one a did not even disconnect it. I will check for a leak and probably buy a new battery. Thanks again

It sounds like it is just your fuel pump kicking on. If you do the same thing with the key on your car or other motor with fuel injection you should hear the same noise.
