I have a 1996 Mercury Black Max 225 HP, carburated. Have replaced water pump, poppit valve, and both thermostats and still does get up to temperature. Barely moves the gauge which is also working properly. The telltale stream however is VERY strong. Could that be a problem? Running out of ideas. Need help!

Thanks

Re: Undercooling

Wife, gee, I am not sure you have a problem. Are the heads warm? Does the motor run poorly?

Normally they run OK when a bit cold, also a lot of water is discharged thru the exhaust which carries heat out the exhaust

Re: Undercooling

You could find/buy melt sticks, draw lines on the motor and see what the temp actually is.

You could have faulty connections, a bad temp sender, or bad guage.

I seriously doubt that your motor is running too cool, it's possible, but very unlikely.
