Unburnt gas?

I have a 1987 merc 9.9 it's a longshaft with electric start. I use the motor on my 26' sailboat and when the motor is close to idle in gear bubbles of gas seem to come from the exhuast and surface behind the motor. I can't find any gas leaks in the hose or fittings or anywhere in side the motor. Could this be somekind of carb problem? The motor seems to run fine at higher speeds and slower speeds.

Re: Unburnt gas?

yes and no. you could be running a little rich or need a carb clean or fuel pump kit. but 2 stokes will have some unburnt fuel at idle. they prefer to run at higher throttle and at an idle they will tend to load up with fuel, which ends up going out exhaust and into water. hence the enviromental push to goto 4 strokes
