1. Letting someone else work on your boat, marinas have nincompoops and incompetents working for them sometimes too.

Hey... If it were not for the people that don't have the time or the skills to work on their own boats nincompoops like me would be out of a job!!!!

I'd say over 3/4s of the toons in the marina where I work in the summer don't have trailers.
We put them in the water in the begining of the season and haul them out in the fall.

How do they service the lower unit (Change the gear oil) with the boat in the water?

I have a few customers that have boats or pontoons that stay year round in a boat house on a lift.
I use a 14' tinny, I guess you could call it my "service boat" that I service from and others I use our trailer to land it, service and put 'em back in.

The marina that did our maintenance used a "yard trailer" when they had to haul the boat out of the water (i.e. drive maintenance), however most maintenance was done with the boat on the lift.

The whole process was incredibly convenient; living without a trailer was great. I'd recommend it to anyone.

What about if you want to boat someplace else once in a while?
What would happen if a storm was coming and no trailer could be found in a hurry?
The boat lift or boat house idea is great if your satified just boating in one lake all the time, but don't work if you want to explore a bit.

Most people around here don't have 'toon trailers either. There's a place in town that rents them for around $20 - $30 for half a day. In winter, they pull out the 'toon and set it on logs or whatever in the backyard for hibernation....... If you don't live, or, have a cabin on a lake, you don't own a 'toon. At least not here.........
