wait ! , if it was as you say running fine before you did the carb.????? why would the timing be wrong .
concentrate on getting the carbs sorted , then if need be mess with timing.

After you replace the timing belt remove the spark plugs and spin the engine with the starter or with a wrench a few times to check if the timing marks on the belt “walk” back to the original location when you first installed it. It take around 25 revoloutions to get the marks back to the starting point. Do not be surprised if they do not line up, this happens when the tensioner is released.
It might run with 1 tooth off but not correctly.

something in the carb is plugged up in the main circuit. you are running out of fuel from the idle circuit. hence the reason it dies. check the main jet to the emulsion tube

did you pass a bit of fishing line thru every passage to make sure they are clear before re-assembling the carbs?

Hello

Right i think i finally found the underlying cause of my issue. The replacement float valves were not the same. The new valves I fitted that came with the kit altered the fuel bowl level by approx 2mm. I refitted the old float valves.
Idle is much better, but I'm stuck with a flat spot between 1500 and 2000 rpm only when drive is engaged. When the drive is disengaged the engine will rev smoothly throughout the range.

thats because in neutral, it will rev to redline running on 2 cylinders with a drop of fuel. in gear and under load, the motor needs fuel. a flat spot in the power output is a fuel system issue.
