Twin motor question. 2 standard rotation or 1 Std & 1 rev.

Does it matter? Advantage,disadvantage of either. Have 1 working Std rotation on port now. Bad motor pulled on starboard side. Was STD rotation. Looking for any info that may be helpful in moving forward… literally and figuratively.. thx

The early twin outboard set ups were both standard rotation.-----Opposite rotation is nice to have.

Hello all here’s a little more info if needed. Vessel 1989, 29’ Sea ray, powered by twin std rtn 5.7 and A1 G1 outdrives. Lost starboard side engine last season. Removed from boat, tore apart and found broken v spring in head. So was going to rebuild engine while it’s out but I wanted to see if I should convert to ccw instead. Thx

Currently have 2 Left hand rotation motors and your asking should you change one to right hand?
No I wouldn't do that

Ayuh,..... Standard motors Are ccw, left-handed, ya gotta look at it from the pto end, not the pulleys end,....

'n right-handed motors aren't used with I/Os,.....
If you want reverse rotation, you need a reverse rotation outdrive,.....

All mercuiser sterndrives have come with std (LH) rotated engines since the beginning. The prop rotation was either a counter rotated alpha drive or bravos which don't care which way they rotate

Only inboard setups used counter rotated (RH) engines. That ended in the 90s though.

Pretty hard to locate quality GM counter rotated engines these days

Just do the counter rotating thing in (one of) the outdrives, not the engines.
