Twin fuel tanks

I have a 1991 Penn Yan with twin fuel tanks. The starboard tank drains faster than the port tank even with both petcocks open leading to the fuel pump. Naturally the gas lines are on the top of the tank so the fuel cannot drain into the other tank to equalize the amount of gas in each tank. If someone can tell me how to balance the amounts in each I would appreciate it.

Ayuh,.... Run awhile on 1 tank, then Switch to the other.... That's what I do...
You should Not be drawing from Both tanks at once....
If you Are,... Replumb,+ isolate the tanks from each other....

Re: Twin fuel tanks

I have port and starboard saddle tanks. I had the same issue when both were set up to drain together. My boat is now set up with a fuel valve to allow running off of one tank at a time. I prefer this method, even though it results in uneven lateral trim most of the time, because it becomes a safeguard against running out of fuel.

Chances are, if you turn around immediately after running one tank dry, you will get either all of the way home or very nearly so. This. of course, assumes that the tanks are the same size.
