if people didnt watch it, there would be no reason to film it.

No doubt - this voyueristic reality genre is scoring new lows in entertainment regularly. Just like a car wreck ... ya' can't not look.

Sometimes you just have to look, kinda like the side shows at the carnival.
I'll never forget paying fifty cents to see a six foot tall maneating chicken. It was a man six foot tall man.... eating KFC.

Re: TV entertainment, how far

I think today's version of "TV Entertainment" is a major factor as to why places like here, iboats, is so quick to gain in popularity. I find that I rarely watch TV anymore because there's simply nothing that merits my attention. All of the, "Look at me!!! I'm only in this for me!!! ME, ME, ME!!" mentality gets on my nerves very quickly. The only "housewife" I'm interested in happens to live with me, and I could care less how tall some folks can make a cupcake or in what shape.

Pretty much, TV is only what I call a "conscious deterrent" in my house. It's used much like sleep medicine: turn it on only when I'm ready to sleep and go ahead and set the "sleep timer" for 30 minutes so it doesn't play all night. Maybe on a rainy weekend afternoon I'll peruse TCM or a fishing show, but that's about it.
