So i wanted a boat last year and looked at a couple smaller boats ... Nothing around was sparking my interest .. so i found a couple boats on google images i liked ... talked to a couple friends and BAM! The idea of building my boat came about ... 1 year later i have got the entire hull covered and am starting the epoxy process in january! we should be all done by april! BTW it is Carolina style 14'1" skiff ... Here is a slideshow video of the boat being built from start to hull finish!

Re: True Homebuilt Wooden Skiff ...

Congratulations! Good looking boat. It looks like a shorter version of the Carolina Dory Skiff that I had visions of building 30 years ago - and even got the plans.

Even though the economics/cost effectiveness might not work out, building my own boat is still on my bucket list - not because I need to (already have a boat), but because I want to!

Thanks guy! I am very excited and the wife has come around to the idea... it is amazing how many people wil want to help you once you start a project like tis .. the suport from family and friends has been crazy ... i have had a trailer donated to me ... a machinist agreed to customize the trailer to make it fit the boat .... and a 1941 johnson outboard engine donated by my best friend (because the Mastercraft he has doesn't need an antique engine lol) it is all coming about nad i will keep you all posted on how i do the epoxy and have thrown ideas around about veneering the sides ... what do you all recomend for glass on the bottom adn veneer on the sides? has anyone seen or done this before?
Lastly could i lay the veneer over glass on the sides if i choose to go that way?

Thanks again guys!

Very niiiice. I have bought plans from glen-l.com for a 15&1/2' skiff. But then I got into a restore project so it will have to wait. Go to glen-l.com they have a forum like this one but for people building wooden boats. There is a wealth of information there and they also sell supplies and boat building plans from 8' boats upto 45' ers.
