Did anyone check out my pictures? anyone find it funny seeing the rubber hose filler under the cooling lines? you can see the T-stat housing, external water pump and more. Talk about half-a$sed. I am surprised it actually held up!!!!!!!!!!!!!

As scared as you seem to be of touching an engine yourself, I'm not surprised that you've only used it once. ;).

Even using a cylinder bore gauge only once should be enough to pay for itself anyway. Of course, if you needlessly spend more on tools than you need to, the savings will not be so significant.

Ebay has PLENTY of bore gauge sets in the sub $50 range.

Depending on when you read this, you might even be able to snag another Miutoyo for not too much more than that.

You need not necessarily have the latest and greatest bore gauge, with digital read-out. Hell, if you've already got a micrometer/slide caliper, you can just do it old-school, and use these little guys.

That's what I learned to use when I was going through an ASE program during high-school.

One thing I learned over my few years of turning wrenches, is that price does not necessarily equal quality. I've owned a LOT of different tools, from Cornwell, to Snap-On, to Mac, to Craftsman. The majority of my tools are just Craftsman tools that cost about 1/4 what Snap-Ons do. They come with a better warranty, work just as well, and IMHO, are more comfortable to use. I used to get drilled by the Snap-On guy when I would try and warranty a tool "How did your break it? Those things don't just break!" Uh, yeah, they do.

Never been hassled at Sears when I warranty something. And I don't have to wait 2-3 weeks for the Snap-On truck to bother showing up to warranty my tools.

I did splurge on a couple of luxuries, like the Snap-On digital torque wrench, but it was just that, a luxury. A good old fashioned "Analogue" wrench would work just as well, and would have cost about 1/10 of what I spent on that wrench. Also wouldn't be draining batteries.

You don't need "designer" tools, to get the job done. I can't say for sure, but you might even be able to "rent" a bore gauge set from Autozone, for free!

And you don't need to spend $80 on a head gasket, when there are composite head gaskets out there for $13.

Sounds like burning money is working for you. A lot of us just don't have that luxury.

Carry on... :D

Yeah, it was at a U-pull it type salvage yard. I can take pictures of the block castings if you like...

I don't know why you think I would just randomly make this crap up. What's in it for me? This is not the only time I've posted about finding it.

http://pnsauto.com/pricelist.html

Look up a complete engine. $129.00+30 core. Wednesdays are "half price day", so since I pulled the engine on Wednesday, that's $64.50+$30 core. The old block had a rod through it, so it was worthless as a core. I saved the heads, so I didn't get a core charge back. That leaves the final price on the engine, out the door at $94.50. Sorry, I failed to mention the $6.18 worth of sales tax. I guess that DOES make me a liar, since the price with tax, was $100.68, or so...

The engine came out of a 1979 K5 blazer. The fact that the salvage yard doesn't bother to look at the castings of every block of every truck they throw in the yard, doesn't make them stupid.

I've got the receipt kicking around here somewhere. If you MUST see it, let me know, and I'll post the receipt and pictures of the block castings.

As far as the rebuild parts go, I did have that particular receipt easily on hand. I don't have a scanner, but I took a picture. Allow me to translate it for you. I even made the items into hyperlinks to the actual product page, so that you can easily verify for yourself that those are indeed the prices, and real part numbers (since you think I'm a liar, and all).

Again, I don't know why you feel the need to continually accuse me of lying. You've challenged several of my statements, and I've provided verifiable proof of those statements. After being repeatedly proven wrong, you take the Argumentum Ad Hominem route, and call me a liar. I don't make claims I can't back up.

You, on the other hand, make a claim/challenge, are totally proven wrong, and then, rather than acknowledge it, simply go back a couple of posts to find something ELSE to challenge.

Seems you have an ulterior motive here. ...or maybe you just can't handle being wrong.

Good day sir.

P.S. Let me know if you'll be needing those block castings...

OK--not to butt in --I also blew my 350--rods thru the block and pan---I've decided that it's best to replace it with a reman long block--any favorite rebuilders out there -other that the GM site already mentioned--thanks Steve
