Re: Troubleshooting starting

I just went through each spark plug wire while starting to determine if the connection after the distributor was bright blue. Each spark plug wire had a bright blue connection about 1/2". I do not think I need to replace the points or the condenser.

Re: Troubleshooting starting

I checked the spark from the ignition coil to ground. The spark did not seem to be the bright blue necessary for ignition. I am going to try replacing it understanding that the current one appears old, corroded, and not working properly. Where can I find the correct part for this 470?

Well, you must not have had it earlier.

Sorry. I didn't update, I replaced the ignition coil. Now, I'm getting bright blue sparks at 5 locations.

Re: Troubleshooting starting

Squirt some gas into the throttle bores of the carb and see if it fires.

Re: Troubleshooting starting

I tried squirting some carburetor cleaner in there and it started to fire, but then stopped. I think its my carburetor/gas end of the system. I am going to replace the fuel filter. Before I go jump into a carburetor rebuild.... how do I know what carburetor I have and what kit I need to replace the gaskets?
