trouble starting 5.7

Hello all I am new here I have a 1995 mercruiser 5.7 with 200 hours on it
and I am having trouble starting it with the key I can start it by way of a remote switch at the starter with the key in the on position. Now with out the remote switch I get a faint click when I try the key. Any ideas on what it could be? or what I should be checking?

Ayuh,... Welcome Aboard,....

Remove, sand, clean, reinstall, 'n grease, ALL of the wiring connections, between the battery, 'n the starter....

If that don't fix it,...
Pull the cannon plug apart, 'n clean it's contacts...

Once all those connections have been cleaned and checked for tightness, if the problem persists, have a look at this thread.

Thanks Don for the reply and the linkIwill try all of the above this week as I am trying to fix it before we put her in the water for this season I had this problem at the of last season and I got bye with using the remote starter button.

Hi Don
I got a chance today to go down to the marina and work on my boat and Ifollow all the steps from the link and it turn out the slave selonoid was bad got a new one and she is working. Thank you for you help.it made it easy to fix.
