Hi I'm having problems with my trolling motor I think, well this is my first boat and I don't know much, I have a 2007 g3, twin batteries. Well I went out last week and the trolling motor worked good, then I went out today and the motor was working fine and then it seemed like it died down like the I had it on speed 5 and it seemed like it was on 1 and I can stop the the propeller with my foot. Now does it charge automatically when the boat is running? Or do I have to charge it, thanks

Re: Trolling motor

Batteries are like buckets of electricity. Empty them and they need to be refilled. You killed the batteries and yes -- they need to be charged and no -- the engine will not charge them unless the engine has a very high capacity alternator and I'm betting it does not. Look around for an AC (household style) power cord or a recessed power socket near where the batteries are located. This boat is set up for fishing so it may have an on-board charger (simply a battery charger that is permanently mounted in the boat). You plug that charger into an AC power cord at the dock. Look in the compartment where the batteries are located. You may find the charger mounted there. If you don't find the charger, you need to install one, or use a portable charger to charge each battery separately.
