Trolling motor wiring question

Is it absolutely necessary to use a circuit breaker to connect the trolling motor to the battery? The minn kota manual I have recommends it.
I plan on running my locator off the same battery. The battery is brand new.

I intend to get the proper circuit breaker, but couldn't find one today, and I plan on using the motor tomorrow without the breaker. Is this safe or should I not use the trolling motor?

Its not absolutely necessary, just safer. Its like a motor cycle helmet. Not necessary until you need it.
