I win an auction last Sunday, 12 foot v bottom aluminum boat, Johnson 3 HP folding motor, and motor guide 34 pound trolling motor. Replaced the power cord clips this morning and test it with DeWalt 20 volt batteries. Works great, thinking of trying to function test for distance soon using DeWalt 5 amp hour batteries.

Want to clean up and inspect the 3 Hp Johnson(1967) ? before I try and start it. do not plan to travel far on the trolling motor, most of the areas I will fish are close to the boat ramp.

There are no good fishing areas close to a boat ramp.
They are all on the other side of the lake.

Take some fuel for the 3hp…won’t need much to get you back where you started off with the electric motor 😂
Well wanted to clean up the Johnson 3hp, and can't get the flywheel off! Have a harmonic balancer puller, and it will not budge! Read where I could use a heat gun to get it to break loose while under pressure. Any thoughts? Webekin

Have tension on the puller. Then whack the flywheel near the hub with a hammer

Yes as Scott mention, use a hammer, a Big F Hammer and the shock usually breaks it loose

I think I would like to mount this trolling motor midship, so I can sit in the middle of my 12 foot V, so it stays flat, not stern heavy. myself batery and trolling motor and maybe the 3HP would be a lot for the stern area to support. Any thoughts on mounting, or just build a mount to fit the side, as solid as possible.

Ok. I can mount the battery in the bow, and that will help with the balance. I can use shut off switch midship and add an extension to the tiller so I can still sit in the middle seat. Set the speed control, then use switch to control drifting speed, with poles off the stern to drift for flatheads. Thanks for the heads up on the tracking, had not considered that. Webekin
