I have a 1986 Champion boat with a Minn Kota 24v trolling motor. The receptical is the original 12/off/24. I have 2 pos. and 2 neg. wires running to it. Is there a receptical that is straight 24v and if so can I run my batteries in series and run both of the pos. and both of the neg. wires together to the receptical?

Re: Trolling motor plug and wiring?

The number of terminals in a receptacle is of no consequence. You don't need to change the receptacle (unless it doesn't match your motor). If you are going to run ONLY 24V you only need to use two of the wires and two of the terminals in the receptacle. Since your batteries are wired in series as shown below, pick any two of the terminals and match them to the same two terminals on the troller plug. You will have 24V on the motor. The reason you have four wires before is both carried 12V to the switch. the switch determined whether you had 12 or 24V to the receptacle. You don't neet that now so bypass it and go directly to the receptacle.

Thank you for the help. That is what I was hoping all I had to do. Also I have a Minn Kota 210 onboard charger, do I have to disconnect the jumper to charge the batteries?

If the charger is rated for 12 or 24V systems no. If it doesn't specifically state that -- then yes. The 210 is a 2-bank 10 amp charger as I remember (5A to each bank).
