Re: Trolling Motor Current Draw ??
this thread's long dead, but thot i'd add my 2 cents; i've put a 12 volt battery in my 14' mohawk canoe, in the back, with a minn kota 30 hanging off the stern; it was an ungainly set up, with too much weight in the back, and the tiller not long enough, even with extension; i found the best place for the battery, in the canoe, to be midships, with the motor off the side of the boat; still my whole experience with motors in canoes, is, Don't. It's not worth it. I mean, why even bother canoeing? If you want a motor, put it in a boat, not a canoe. That said, I always thought the purpose of a small solar panel was to charge up the battery, slowly, when the motor's not in use, and not to run the motor. Btw, the fellow who wrote that a minn kota uses a lot more amps in the water than in the garage is dead-on right. Y'day, I ran my minn kota 30, from a 12 volt marine battery, on blocks in the porch, on Full (Speed 5), from 6 pm, thru the night, and this morning at 8 am, it was still running.
