Anyone think California Chrome will pull off the first Triple Crown since Affirmed in 1978, 36 years ago. I'm hoping it happens today, but I'll put no money on it.

I will be pulling for it to happen but this is a long race. Hopefully the breathing strip will help :)

I saw somewhere that Breathe Right was doing some promotion/sponsorship similar to UPS with Big Brown. The CA Chrome deal is supposed to be worth half a million. Breathe Right wants California Chrome to win by a nose. :joyous:

Well, I'm thinking California Chrome has the best shot of any horse in years. But it's a long race and he's running against a lot of rested horses. Still, his previous runs make me think he has the stuff to do it. I'd sure like to see it, though. I never gamble but I might be willing to drop a couple of bucks on this, just for luck. Unfortunately, I'd probably jinx him which is why I almost never gamble. Given two choices, there is about a 97% chance I'll pick the wrong one and I really, really hate losing money on a bet.

Chrome couldn't do it, and Pirates gave up too many runs ... Time for something else ... A nap, maybe ...

I bet he would have done it, if he could have gotten close to the rail,,, but he was blocked.

Watched it live so no need to watch the youtube. I was hoping CC woudl win but figured he wouldn't because the top four contenders haven't raced for 2 months or more. CC ran a mile, a mile 1/4 and then today a mile 1/2, all within 5 weeks which is really a big deal for a horse. We will likely never see another triple crown winner.

Live here too, just posted for those who didn't. He's got a point but very bad timing, sounds like crying over spilled road apples.

I'm not sure what all the fuss about rested horses is about. A total of 3 races covering 3 3/4 miles in 5 weeks does not seem like too much to ask from an animal that was born to run.

I saw a stat and if I remember correctly, the last 6 of 8 Belmont winners didn't run the Derby or the Preakness. Maybe those winners mainly trained for the longer run. No wonder it's tough to get a Triple Crown. I can understand where the guy is coming from, he just should have saved his rant for off camera........

I think his rant was OK, except he could have used a better choice of words. Coward was a bit strong. His point reminds me of the woman, Rosie Ruiz, who won the 1980 Boston Marathon. She took the subway after the start and popped out of the crowd about a mile from the finish. I know that was cheating, but I don't think it's too much to ask that all horses competing in a Triple Crown run or try to run all 3 3/4 miles. IMHO

A triple crown winner should be an all time great, not just the best 3 year old of that year. People still remember Secretariat, Seattle Slew and Affirmed because they were true champions. California Chrome is a good horse but does not belong in the same category as the triple crown winners.

As the owner of 3 horses, I agree.

No rest is part of the challenge. The Great one somehow make it happen.

Yeah, no different than making men, women and child work forced labor camps.....

Obviously never been around retired race horses. They are used, abused and but away wet. Most are crippled and retired by the age of 4-5.
A very cruel sport from the animal's perspective.
