Hi all I have finally got my old Evinrude running like a top, now its time to set it up and trimmed properly.
I have set the motor so the cav plate is at the same height as the bottom of the stern, and at present have the engine trimmed right in at present when I turn the boat it leans excessively, if I trim further out will that have a positive or negative effect ? or should I install some wedges to effectively trim the engine further in?
Looking forward to responses from those smarter and more experienced than me.

Re: Trimming

There is no single trim setting that is perfect for all loads. That's why power trim was added to bigger motors. The seat of your pants tells you when the boat is properly trimmed. Plowing says you are trimmed in too far. nose high says trimmed out too far. Running by yourself requires one trim setting.. Running with two or three means trim must be adjusted for that load. You would very rarely need to shim a motor so it trims IN farther.

Re: Trimming

The first step is make sure the motor is at the proper height. Cavitation plate should ride at the water level when at WOT. There are a few posts with pics that show it well. Most find the cav plate is 1 to 2" above the bottom of the stern.

Re: Trimming

I don't think trim as a rule affects "leaning" while turning.
It could just be the way the boat is.
