Trim Vs Tilt

OK it's low water season, and I don't want to hack my propeller. Can I run the engine above the trim limit, even at idle, going straight ahead? There's a spot where we lose almost a foot of depth coming out of the dock. Seems like a no answer, but I'd be interested to hear from those who know.

My merc manual says if you are going to run above the trim limit to stay under 1200 RPM. Whenever I beach my boat I have no choice but to do the same thing. Haven't had any issues becauae I don't go past idle speed (800 rpm)

Your putting a lot of stress on the U-Joints and other parts when you run in that position, which is why it isn't entirely recommended unless it's absolutely necessary.

Yeah, running at idle speed is OK with the drive up. Just make sure the water intake is immersed so the engine stays cool.

I do it when I beach the boat. I keep it at idle...
