I bought a 1987 40hp Johnson and I want to change the Hyd. fluid in the Trim Tilt unit; This unit has two cylinders, one on the left and the other on the right. How do I drain and refill the unit?
Welcome to iboats.

You'd have to disassemble it to get it all. There is no drain. You can come close by removing the manual relief valve and tilting the motor up and down manually to empty the cylinders, and by operating the trim button up and down to empty the pump. That's a real back-breaker unless you have a way to tilt it mechanically such as with a winch or jack, etc. Devise a deflector, it'll squirt pretty far.
