trim / tilt problems

Hello, I am having a problem with the trim will go up and down fine but won't stay up or in position .Espesially running,but will lift running.I was advised to replace the manual release valve , does that sound right ? There is no leaks of any kind . Thanks or any advice.

it could very well be the release valve seals.

if not its going to be the ram seals, not hard to do at all once you make a little tool to undo the ram tops.
seals can only be the genuine ones, not too expensive and you get every seal in the system.

being as its not leaking from anywhere sounds like oil is bypassing, so its ram seals or release valve open or seal bad.

are you sure the release valve is fully tightened ? sometimes just a fraction can make the difference.

Hi, thanks for the reply the model # is E50TLECC 98 evenrude.I have bought a manual release valve that I hope will fix it but if you have any other suggestioons they are very welcome. We are three weeks out on fishing and the wife is bugging to go.

If the manual release valve doesn't do it it could be the seals in the tilt/trim ram or a valve leaking internally.
