I Just Put A Trim And Tilt Unit On My 1989 85 Hp Force And It's Leaking Down At The Valve Body. It's The Older Unit With The Chrysler Emblem For The Trim Ram Cover. I Know There's An Adjustment For The Blow Off Valve But The Unit Isn't Supposed To Be Serviceable. I'm Probably Going To Buy A New Valve Body But I Would Like To Get One More Season Out Of It. Should I Just Run The Allen Screw In A Few Turns Or What?

Re: Trim & Tilt Adjustment

If system bleeds down without external fluid leak then a valve body rebuild or a new valve body will almost always fix it. It is fairly rare to encounter other failures without external corrosion, external leaks, or wrong fluid (red instead of honey colored). There is no adjustment on your system. It either works or needs to be serviced.

The smart choice is to have the pump serviced as a unit including both motor and valve body. They both tend to give out within a year or two of each other. Fixing both at once is only slightly more expensive than fixing either of two parts. It should cost you $130-$200ish to get a good as new pump assembly. Given the likelyhood of failure and amount of labor to remove from engine it really doesn't make sense to do half a job.

Thanks For The Help.... I Guess I'll Just Get A New Valve Body Since The Motor Is 6 Months Old. I Found A New Valve Body For 250.00 To 300.00 Do You Think Anyone Else Can Do Better? And Who Rebuilds Them?

Re: Trim & Tilt Adjustment

Personally, I don't think $250 for just a valve body is much of a deal. It's a halfway fix that leaves you with a $200 trim motor and another day's labor in your future. I subscribe to the philosophy of either fix it right or don't waste your time.

try looking on ebay and searching iboats for "rebuilt valve body". What you really want is the whole pump assembly (motor + reservoir + valve body) either as an old for new exchange or as a carry/mail in repair service. But if you sesarch for "pump" or "motor" then you are going to get too many unwanted links. It's not that "valve body" is the thing to look for. It is that valve body will return the fewest trash answers.
