1987 triton dynasty. used to be a 2.5. i bought it with a 4.3 chevy inboard. still 2.5 outdrive.the trim has stuck down both times we have had it out this year. the sterndrive trim sender switch had a broke wire. have soldered it back together and it still works with a meter. my question is doea it stop the lowering of the trim or just tell you where it is. the gage does not move now so will look some more. new switch is 107$ . not gonna replace if does not solve sticking problem. it comes loose but not pretty.

Re: trim stuck down.

The sender has nothing to do with lowering/raising the drive. It is only used by the gauge.

If the trim is going down constantly, its either your trim switch getting stuck or the down solenoid getting stuck. You could swap solenoids to see if that is the issue but my bet is on the trim switch. Just take apart the control and manually apply voltage to the down wire to see if the problem is repeatable.

Re: trim stuck down.

does not go down constantly. it sticks in the down position. thought it jammed in the shallows but did it again not in the shallows. maybe i am lowering to far and it cannot get enough pzr built in the cylinders to bring back up. if switch has nothing to do with stopping the lower than may not worry much with it. may try a physical stop so cannot lower to much.

Re: trim stuck down.

can you hear the pump running when you try to raise it again?

What do you do to eventually raise the drive?

Fluid level is correct right? Only check when the drive is in the up position.

well after reading u r question and discussing with step-son and reading the manual we added lots of fluid to the hydraulic unit. it goes up and down very well now. figure was running out of juice when all the way lowered. learning curve for sure. 4 time out since had boat. fixing more stuff and learning too. sure likes fuel.
