trim question

i have just installed a 98 115 johnson spl,i hooked up the trim wire to the gauge but when i trim up the gauge goes down and vise-versa anyone else seen this?

Locate the trim gauge sender unit back at the engine. There are two wires leading from it. Reverse those two wires at their connections.

ok just tried that ,doesnt work at all that way anymore suggestions.

there are actually 3, but 2 are black and connect to the same terminal and the other is white/tan.
