:welcome: to iboats Andew

The trim system is fairly simple but does have several parts. Depending on condition I would look at the cylinders first. You didn't mention what size, year or serial number of the engine. Below is a link to manuals you can have a look in

Re: Trim Pump

I am new to this I could post a picture if I knew how to lol thanks
Hi there Andrew, Welcome to iboats!

Have a look at this video of how to post pictures. I believe it should still work this way if nothing has changed since 2010. Posting Pictures to iBoats.avi - YouTube

Also we will still need you engine information as mentioned by AllDodge above.

Good luck.:)

Re: Trim Pump

I hooked the pump up and bleed the cylinders I don't have any leaks as of right now when I push the trim in button the cylinders get hard and u can't move them now how does it go down bc If I press the up button it does nothing and the motor isn't hooked up to the trim right now so idk if the weight of the motor bleeds the pressure off the motor is a 79 mercury 50 hp serial 5446074 and it's on a 89 bass tracker 17 foot boat

Re: Trim Pump

A '79 PTT unit should be two trim cylinders and a separate Pump/reservoir unit. Is that what you have?

Re: Trim Pump

The PTT unit must hold against forward and reverse thrust, so the cylinders will be impossible to move with your hand, if they are working properly. The trim up circuit differs from the tilt up circuit, but both use the same hardware. To trim up the trim limit switch must be closed, and the tilt button pushed. Tilt up requires you to push both trim up and tilt up buttons at the same time. To bypass all that wiring, jumper the solenoid with the blue wire, as blue means sky (up) and green is water (down). Id the motor turns and the trim goes up, at least you know the motor works.

If the pump is leaking, it is usually the Orings between the pump and the control valve, or a leaking hydraulic line.
