Ok this is probably a dumb question, but I am fairly new to boating, and I love this Forum since no one judges anyone on how much they know and it is simply boaters helping boateers, which is great.
Anyways, my Trim down works, Trailer button up works, but the normal Trim up only works for a second and then cuts out. And every once in a while, none of them work at all, it just clicks. So last night I replaced all the fuses, and when I hit the Trim button, I saw sparks fly off the battery and went to examine it and there was a little fluid leaking out of the Positive Wire (one of which goes to the Trim motor). I am assuming that this is my problem and that to fix the Trim all I need to do is replace the Battery and the positive cable running to the Trim motor. Could someone please give me advice to anything else it might be, or what else I might have messed up because of this issue.... Because I will be very upset if I replace the Battery and cables just to find out the Trim still doesnt work. I also heard that I could have damaged my Trim Limit Switch, and how to figure out if thats the case. Also not sure if it matters but the problem originally started when I was trying to plane out and every time I touched the Trim it shorted out the Motor, so I had to limp back to the dock with the Trim down (luckily Trailer button worked when in neutral). Also unrelated, but if someone could explain the circuit breaker 50amp switch on my Mercruiser. Someone told me I should reset it, and that it was hard to push, so I forced it really hard and now it is stuck in(is this going to be a problem?). But engine is runnning great with muffs on, Trim seems to be main problem now. pls any advice would be greatly appreciated!!!
