Re: Trim not working

Another test is to check the voltage at the small blue wire on the solenoid as someone holds the trim up switch on. Then check it as they hold the trailer switch on. Then go to the small green wire on the other solenoid and check voltage as someone holds the trim down switch on. Should have 12 volts as they hit the switches. If you have voltage than the solenoid is bad unless the large wire connections are dirty and not making contact. Disassembling the motor is the last place you would go.
I had no power at any wire except red.

It HAS to have voltage at the small blue and green if the solenoids are clicking. Are they still clicking? When testing you should be using the black ground wires on the pump for your meter ground lead and positive meter lead on blue and green as the switch is operated. Is this correct? Small blue and green have white stripes on them also.

Did the pump run when you jumped between the large terminals? Large Red to Large Blue and on the other solenoid Large Red to Large Green?

I did everything as you described. Some time they click sometimes they don't. I ordered 2 just for the hell of it, they were only $17 each. What are the odds that both would go bad at the same time, and would 1 bad one cause this?

Re: Trim not working

Now try jumping from the Large Red to the Small Blue/White and then on the other solenoid between the Large Red and Small Green/White. This should make the solenoid click ON and the motor run. If it just clicks and the motor don't run then the solenoid is bad. Doing this you are completely bypassing your switchs and wiring to the front of the boat.

No one bad solenoid wouldn't cause all this and I quess there is always the possibility both could stop working at once. Is this the first time you have tried it since winter? They may have got corrision on the contacts inside the solenoids from moisture.

Will try that tomorrow. I just bought the boat in March, but the prev. owner had it happen once the day i picked it up. It has been happening on and off to me then just stopped.

Re: Trim not working

It turn out it was the solenoid(s). I got 2 new ones in the mail and installed them today and all trim functions work perfect now.
