trim noise?

I have a 1993 115 evinrude, I just replaced the trim motor cause sometimes it wouldnt want to work. I already replaced relays, fluid in resevoir is good. Now its making a grinding noise. My mechanic told me i would probably have to replace the hydrolic pump. Does anyone have any suggestions, before i go out and buy a new pump.
