have a 89 85hp force with trim and tilt that when hooked up directly to bat works fine. when hooked up correctly or directly to switch it operates slowly and trips circ. breaker.any suggestions?
Replace relays. (There are 2 you'll see near the starter soloenoid.) About 10 bucks each. Also, grease the pivot pints, to make sure veerythings moving smoothly. look for the zerk fittings.
Sounds like you have a lot of resistance in the wiring then. Do a voltage drop test from the battery to the switch and then from the switch to the pump/relays.
check to make sure that all large gauge connections are clean, free of corrosion, and secure (including ground path). If you have solid connections throughout then it may be an old circiut breaker that trips too easily. However, I think it is corroded connection since you are experiencing low torque before breaker trips.
thanks for the input. i found a voltage drop in wires from switch to relays, the 2 pos. wires were pinched when i ran a new steering cable. it all seems to be working now. tight lines to all.
