Actually "Snow-Bowl" does do a great job cleaning gel-coat. I think you just didn't read the active ingredients and buy the right product. Lots of the "boat cleaner" products have the "marine pricing" and are silly expensive which is why most people search for other options.

the dollar store bowl cleaner worked great on my hull but didn't play well with my galvanized trailer: keep it well flushed.

Bleach is the worst thing you can use on upholstery. Will weaken the thread in all of your seams. Don't use it.

Muriatic acid. Why? I tried boat hull cleaners, several brands, didn't work. Muriatic is very cheap and works.
That's why, for me anyway.

100% yes-- and as for toilet bowl cleaners, go to Walmart or Home Depot and buy "The Works", because it's 20% hydrochloric (muriatic) acid, no more no less. It's exactly the same stuff and strength as the gallons of muriatic you buy at Lowes. I mix it 2 or 3 to 1 with water, and use a cheap $8 garden sprayer. What muriatic acid does is dissolve calcium. Period. It won't remove dirt, grease or exhaust soot. I don't think it affects wax either. But you can remove every last trace of calcium just by repeatedly spraying, you don't even need to use a brush. Spray a small area, like a square foot, wait about 5 seconds, spray again. The calcium neutralizes the acid rather quickly, so you don't bother letting the acid "work". When the acid contacts calcium it will foam up and/or smoke. When the acid quits foaming and smoking, the calcium is gone, move to the next square foot.

Oh yeah-- rinse every thing down with a water hose, often.

I did the bottom of our 26' Chap using less than 3 bottles of The Works mixed 2 parts water/1 part acid. The bottles are like $1.25 each, it don't get much cheaper. If you rinse good, the acid won't hurt your trailer paint, the driveway, the lawn, nothing. Just keep it off the stainless!

Once the calcium is gone, to clean up everything, there's another bathroom product I use: Scrubbing Bubbles. The stuff just works, that's all I'll say!

A few weeks after my original post, I wet sanded (where needed), compounded, polished, and waxed my entire boat -- wow what a PITA! The process cleaned everything off and after that, exhaust, dirt, and all other crap just wiped off with a wet towel. However, the boat does not stay in the water, so I don't get near the stains you guys in slips get.

On and Off seems to remove most anything aside from gelcoat
