Hello everyone! I am a total newb and just picked up a 1970 galaxy tri-hull boat that needs some restoring. It looks like the stringers are in pretty good shape but the dash and electronics look to be in disarray. The bottom of the hull is skuffed a bit I will take more pics and upload tomorrow. My wife and I are going to restore this baby for recreational use with the family. I want to put a big motor on it to tow a float or skis. I have looked around and already gathered lots of helpful info from this awesome site. Any help or pointers will be very much appreciated. Thanks

Looks like a good start. You may want to do some drill cores to check the stringers and transom though. A boat that age may have some rot. I would hate to see you put allot of time a money in to a rotten boat.

Thanks Drewp I never even thought of that. What a racket to jump into huh? So I am preparing to do the core test on the stringers, should I use a regular drill bit or core drill bit to assess the interior of the stringers? Do you think a spot inspection is good enough or a staggered approach, like three holes in random spots on each stringer?

I would drill at the back, middle, and front....just guessing here but I bet there is water and rot throughout them and the transom.

great looking boat. i would think that random spot would be best but with them wrapped as they are they look like they should be in great shape. have fun and remember when it is all finished YOU DID IT!!!!
