Christies Mill is right at lock45 they do have boat slips and its a top notch weekend getaway Spa resort, most of the Inn is brand new they just completed a huge expansion, this place is fine dining and whining and requires a fat Wallet If you want to be pampered then this is the place.

Thanks NE. Just the kind of info I was looking for. I'm going to pass this on to the Captain/Purser. We are looking forward to another visit to the Trent.

Greg

Re: Trent-Severn waterway ?

If any of you fellow boaters come Port Severn way next summer give me a heads up has to when your coming would like to hook up with a I-boats member or two out on the waterways. I'v boated Severn and Southern Georgian Bay for 30 years.
Greg.S. If your planning on heading down below lock 45 be sure to have the most up to date charts available, this is some of the most dangerous parts of Georgian Bay, I boat it just about every weekend from May to Oct, I'v never hit bottom yet, but trust me I'v seen many good and bad boaters wreck with 2 miles of lock45. I'm not trying to scare anyone this is a popular area for boating and just requires some caution and common sense for those not familier with the area.

Thanks for the advice NE, I don't know how brave we'll be with Georgian Bay. Maybe the same as we did with Simcoe, just went far enough to wet the boat and say we did it then turned around. It will depend on the weather and circumstance. I will certainly post before we go.

Greg

Well since it seems to be only a few of us Ontario boaters on this thread I don't think anybody is to bothered if its a new thread or not. I should be visiting the boat show hopefully the first Saturday.

My wife and I and our 2 sons are planning on going on the first Sunday, it's kind of a family tradition (would rather go on the Saturday but it's only day everyone has off) We typically hit the new boats first thing when the lines aren't too bad and then peruse the booths later and then go for dinner. Boating has always been a family thing for us.

Thanks Greg S Just like to extend to any member that might visit the area to post here. If I'm there at the right time I would be more than happy to meet up and escort you around the area, since the area is my boating playground I know it well.

Re: Trent-Severn waterway ?

NE, yes thanks we had a great trip. I started writing it up when I got back but it turned into several paragraphs that I don't think anyone but my wife and I would find interesting.

In a nutshell, got up to Severn Falls one day, then out to Severn Sound on another nice calm day. Went thru the Potato Island channel to about Buoy 59 I think (chart not handy). I was less intimidated by that channel than Little Chute.

After all that and no drama, there was loading the boat to go home at the Driftwood cove ramp. I guess I weren't listening good enuff to the instructions. 30 seconds from the ramp and grounded the skeg and the prop. There is no worse sound than rotating metal on Cambrian Shield.

DOH!!!! Luckily $150 bucks fixed that.

All in all tho we had a great time.

Greg

Glad to hear you had a nice trip, at least you banged it going home and not just starting out.
Saw a guy at lock45 last week with a brand new 30ft Doral cleaned off both drive's just on the outside of the 400 bridge, he had no charts or any real boating experince (first boat). he didn't understand that the bouys switched to upstream when leaving the locks.
