Hi,
New to Mercruiser I/O here.
It is a 1997 Mirage with a transplanted 5.7L TBI. I have pictures of ECM, Coil and distributor. The motor is matted with an Alpha 1 Gen2 Merc drive, I need to wire the Interrupt switch on the shift plate... I am at a complete loss.. Did a lot of reading but , as you can see, the coil doesn't have a + and - studs, it's got 2 (2 wires ) plugs. Some more reading suggested that I need a Normally Closed interrupt switch. Mine is normally open (of course.. ) and it is the new type, (not roller type). and that the switch would have to be connected to the coil somehow...

Anyway, I am reaching out to the gurus here. I really don't want to start experimenting and frying things.

Thank you!

Fred

You have a Delco Voyager distributor?

It was from another I/O boat with a Bravo drive i believe.. Here are some pictures of the distributor.. I don’t know what type it is. Hopefully this will help...

The ECM 3854369 is a VP number and is used on 5.7GIPHUS, GIPMDA, GIMDACE and GIIMDA acording to OBD Diagnostics. Another clue its VP are the multiple breakers

Being for a VP, the ECM would not use a shift interrupter. Should be doable but

Merc never used a MEFI-1 with EST ignition on a V8 but did use it on the V6. Using this I would connect the interrupter to the White wire coming from the distributor

Thank you very much!!!! Just one last thing tho. I would have to have a normally closed interrupt switch then, right?

swap your drive from an alpha to either a VP drive or a bravo (both have cone clutches and don't use a shift interrupt)

Yes, I believe so. Looking at the manual it shows a switch open, and would assume this is normal state, but comment above list to use a jumper for Bravo. Looking further at MEFI-3 it uses a normally open as well
