Your question is like asking "How much does a car cost?". Let us know what you want to know & it can be answered.

Re: Transom

how much is transom work generally?

There is no "generally", other than cr2K's formula. That tells you... Not much:confused:. Tell us about your boat. send pictures of the transom and failing/problem areas. Specify exactly to what you're referring. We'll be happy to offer guidance from there:).

That was fast:rolleyes:... Doesn't look good in the picture. You'll need to probe with a screwdriver or ice-pick to see how deeply the rot goes. If the rot is deep, you'll need to replace the transom. If you're capable of doing it yourself (with guidance), then it won't be too bad, financially. This post will most likely be moved to the restoration forum by one of the Mods. That's where you'll get a better idea of what you're getting in to with your boat. Check the bilge and stringers near the transom. How is your deck? Any soft spots? Post more pics, inside and out.

Re: Transom

Worst case scenario...2 pieces of 3/4 bcx plywood, some epoxy resin/wood sealer, a couple weekends, and a lot of swearing. throw in a 6 pack of beer and it's actually a rewarding project...when you're done and on the water at least. Is that a separate outer piece of plywood? Not everybody puts that one back on, I didn't. If the rest of the transom is good, you can probably either replace or just remove the outer piece. Look around under the splashwell, probe with a screwdriver, and see what you find. The bulk of the transom may be better than you think.

Don't forget the West Systems Epoxy and some Fiberglass Cloth and paint.
