Transom tie down idea

So my Checkmate MX 16 is on this trailer and it is a Snow trailer that is a roller/bunk trailer and there is no straight line to use transom straps.

My idea is to get two pieces of square tubing and insert them into these end tubes and attach a retracting set of straps on the end.

The extra pieces would be bolted or welded. My question is whether this is a good idea or if I should use a single gunwale strap or just use transom straps and let them ride over the bottom of the transom. Oh yeah those straps in the picture were from the PO and will be replaced. If I use transom straps without the extensions my next thought would be to attach the retractable straps in the same spot the old straps are hooked to.

Thanks

What is the problem with the way you are doing it now?

The problem being that the holes utilized for the straps now are way to thin on the holding side (less than a 16th) and if tightened down they would snap at any stress situation. I also think that having a dog leg in the straps as they are now just doesn't seem like it would hold the boat under any bump situations. I realize that in a hard stopping situation there isn't much that will hold the boat to the trailer, but in normal down the road the boat moves around too much.

You could use the straps that go across the beam of the boat and use the hooks that are attached to the trailer by the lights.

That would be my best bet it seems as I really don't like the dog leg strap situation.
